Job Description

This position involves providing non-medical personal care assistance services to elderly individuals, physically disabled persons, and developmentally disabled clients (consumers) who live in their own homes or in community settings. Services are delivered under the supervision of ALKAS HOME CARE SERVICES, LLC to help consumers maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life in the most comfortable and least restrictive environment.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid photo ID or driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to make sound decisions and exercise problem-solving skills, including during emergencies, while coordinating with the agency.
  • Must have a current PPD test, physical examination report, and vaccination record.
  • Must be able to obtain a Direct Care Worker (DCW) certification and any other applicable certifications as required by law or the state’s community-based service program through Agency administred In-House Competency Training Program.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide non-medical personal care assistance to elderly/disabled consumers within their homes or community settings.
  • Support consumers in moving safely from room to room and participating in community activities as outlined in their service plan.
  • Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, and other personal hygiene tasks while maintaining privacy and respect.
  • Assist with safe transfers, such as from bed to couch and couch to bed, following agency training and safety procedures.
  • Help developmentally disabled adults enhance daily living skills and maintain independence through supportive guidance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of consumers’ daily meals, water intake, and general well-being.
  • Deliver services according to the plan of care mutually developed between the participant and the Managed Care Organization (MCO), following all agency policies and state guidelines.
  • Assist with scheduling hospital or medical appointments, arranging transportation, and coordinating medication refills as needed.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks, including cleaning, making beds, changing trash bags, and doing laundry, to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Prepare meals, snacks, and supper in accordance with dietary preferences or restrictions outlined in the plan of care.
  • Observe and monitor consumers’ physical and emotional conditions and report any changes promptly to the Supervisor.
  • Assist consumers with self-administration of medications in accordance with agency guidelines and state regulations (no medication administration).
  • Provide continuous supervision and companionship during scheduled hours to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Report immediately any unusual or concerning behavior—verbal, physical, emotional, or environmental—to the Supervisor.
  • Respect and honor each consumer’s culture, norms, values, and beliefs in all interactions, following agency guidelines for cultural sensitivity.
